Canary Islands for foodies: luxury and sun all year round

Nothing like venturing through the largest of the Canaries around the winter to know what is good: exclusive hotels, high-flying trips, dreamlike landscapes, incomparable cuisine, whale watching excursions and marine life, and a good beach club.

The Canary Islands are not only a summer thing in Europe, but they also make their August in autumn and even in winter, when sunbathing is a real privilege. And to put ourselves in the shade, let it be that of Teide, because where we are going this time, is to Tenerife. To be happy in San Cristóbal de la Laguna and Santa Cruz, to marvel at the almost Havana’s exuberance of La Orotova, to have La Gomera a stone’s throw away and to dream of conquering La Palma and winking at Gran Canaria. These are the islands where spring is fortunately eternalized, it is closer to the sky, the footsteps of the whales are followed and the stars are seen more and better than anywhere else. It is not poetry, it is simply a good plan.

The nature, the charming villages, the folk and traditional clothing, the thermometer that does not go down and a sun that is always making everything very easy and enjoyable. Even more so if to spend the night (and the day) one chooses what is probably the most luxurious hotel on the island of Tenerife, Bahia del Duque, in Costa Adeje.

Another thing that Tenerife boasts and with good reason is its the luxury hotel Ritz Carlton Abama with a high gastronomic level of restaurants, which take you to the table to wait for the delights of 20/20 Steakhouse, which are grilled meats, which make you a part of the sky Michelin, with the expertise in the kitchen of Martín Berasategui in his MB (Basque author cuisine) and Ricardo Sanz in Kabuki (Japanese). All three are inside the Ritz Carlton Abama complex, which houses another 10 restaurants.

And, moreover, there is nothing like seeing Tenerife from above. With a good expert helicopter company in the island you can live an amazing helicopter tour. We recommend a photographic experience around the highest peak in the country that will certainly be unforgettable; the one that will take you along the southern coasts, flying over the Puertito, a place famous for the observation of turtles and whales, the fishing village of La Caleta, and the tourist areas of Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos; or the one that will place you above Los Gigantes, those colossal cliffs up to 600 meters high, which is to say. You cannot miss this.

Lastly, end your stay in La Palma, “La Isla Bonita”- so called the beautiful island and home to stunning sites such as the charming town of Santa Cruz de la Palma, El Roque de los Muchachos or Caldera de Taburiente. This natural paradise is just a 30 minute flight from Tenerife, and stay at the first emblematic and adults-only hotel of Canary Islands: Hotel Hacienda de Abajo; and the result of a careful rehabilitation of an old sugar farm from the 17th century, decorated with unique art objects from the 1st to the 20th centuries, combining elegance with the most modern comforts. Each of our 32 rooms is individually decorated, so none resembles the other.

With incomparable views over the Atlantic Ocean, the hotel houses a unique restaurant, El Sitio, exquisite in its content and in its gastronomic offer, where unique and innovative flavors, heady aromas and subtle nuances come together in a kitchen that combines centuries-old cuisine local with rich and elaborate international influences.

Indeed, every day lunches and dinners constitute warm moments of encounter in this restaurant that, with its bar-cafeteria, is becoming from half past seven in the morning until late at night, and on its own merits, on the point of meeting of the local society with their distinguished guests.

A unique art collection, with authentic works brought from Flanders and Andalusia in the 17th century decorate the entire property and rooms, with the authenticity of the island and a lovely area to relax in the salt outdoor pool and botanical gardens with species from all around the world.
